Welcome to Bike Seattle

A Bikeable Seattle!

Suburbanites may loath to admit it, but the future of Seattle transportation doesn’t lie in another I-5 lane expansion. Seattle’s more forward thinking policy makers are aiming to finally make the city into a progressive biking haven. Through improved bike infrastructure and better biking policies, Seattle is getting us out of our Hummers and onto our Schwinns.

Bike Infrastructure

Seattle, known to some as the Emerald City and to others as Pothole Town. In spite of the city’s crumbling infrastructure, it still offers over 50 miles of protected and possibly navigable bike lanes. For a scenic ride, Seattle has more than 90 miles of bike trails. Seattle is also adding 12 more miles of bike lanes in 2024 alone!

Bike Sharing

Lime Bikes, love them or hate them they’re here to stay! Seattle has increased bike accessibility with over 10,000 rentable bicycles strewn across the city. This initiative offers an eco-friendly (minus the few that end up in the Puget Sound) and low cost way for the average Joe to navigate around town.

Traffic Safety

Seattle drivers may hate cyclists, but the city is taking a different stance. The Project Zero safety initiatives are aiming for zero traffic deaths and serious injuries by focusing on safer bike lanes, traffic calming, and mutual respect among road users. With these initiatives, perhaps Seattle drives and cyclists may someday finally live in harmony.

The Environment

Cycling in Seattle goes beyond transportation; it's a step towards a greener city. Replacing just one car trip with a bike ride each week can save over 500 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per year. With record breaking summers becoming a yearly occurrence, It may take just a few more 100° days for even Sara Nelson hop on her bike.

The Future

The road ahead for Seattle includes more bike lanes, deeper integration of cycling into urban planning, and fostering a community where cycling is a key part of city life. Seattle is not just planning for a bike-friendly tomorrow but building it today.
