MAGAZINE DESIGN

Project Overview

Sub Standard Magazine spotlights odd and obscure subcultures from around the world. Each issue contains a collection articles that run the gambit of fun to compelling. The aesthetic takes inspiration from pulp magazines and zines.

  • Our goal is to launch 'Sub Standard Magazine,' a publication that unveils and celebrates unique, underrepresented stories from around the world, connecting curious readers with odd and interesting global subcultures

  • While researching for 'Sub Standard Magazine,' I realized that the content perfectly fit the interests of people like my former coworker, a night shift security guard fascinated by the occult and alternative cultures. Using my old coworker as the project north star helped shape the magazine’s focus, ensuring I delivered dark and compelling stories that resonate with an audience that thrives on the unconventional.
